First, the
official
jibberish:
Samsung Electronics announced today the beginning of mass production of
the first 3-bit multi-level-cell, three-dimensional, Vertical NAND flash memory,
to be used in solid state drives.
Now you may know Samsung for their kickass smartphones, but Samsung’s largest
market share actually comes from their advanced memory technology division.
Memory, yes, those tiny chips that store all your data, hot and cold. So what
does all this sum up to? Well, the advent of cheaper, faster, better drives,
which in short, is pretty much the death of those bulky, error-driven, rotating
hard drives.
Exciting news, but they’re not quite out there yet, so hold your horses
before you take out your wallet for that new gadget just yet.
